Downtown Toronto · Est. dateline

The news website and podcast reporting the core of downtown Toronto.

Birchcast covers Yonge–Dundas, the Discovery District, Kensington Market, the St. Lawrence neighbourhood and the central waterfront in a weekday newsletter, a weekly podcast and a running website — and we sell our own advertising directly to the businesses along those same blocks.

Before you book

What to bring to the first call

A stack of newspapers and a notebook on a desk near Yonge-Dundas Square

Booking a placement is quick once we have the basics. A short briefing keeps host-reads and sponsor notes sounding like they belong on the page rather than dropped into it.

  • 01 Your business name, address or coverage area, and the offer or event you'd like mentioned.
  • 02 A logo file for newsletter placements, or a short set of talking points for a host-read.
  • 03 Preferred edition or episode dates, where possible — we'll confirm what's open.
  • 04 A billing contact for the invoice, sent ahead of the first placement running.
Process

How a placement gets on air, or on the page

Step 1

First message

Tell us which placement suits you, using the form below or by phone.

Step 2

Briefing

A short call or email exchange gathers copy, logo and preferred dates.

Step 3

Draft & review

We send wording or a script outline for your review before anything runs.

Step 4

It runs

Your placement runs on schedule; a short summary follows once it's complete.

Pricing note

What the price on the rate plate includes

Each price above is the full cost of that placement as listed — the number of editions or reads shown, the copy-edit or script-review round described on the services page, and the short summary delivered once the run is complete. There is no separate production fee for the formats listed.

An invoice is issued once details are confirmed at the briefing call. If a request changes the scope — additional editions, a longer campaign, extra creative rounds — we'll quote that as its own booking rather than adjusting the listed price.

Scope

What's included

  • The exact number of editions, reads or article slots listed for the placement booked.
  • One round of copy or script review before anything runs.
  • A short, plain-language summary after the run — opens and clicks for newsletter placements, a listen-count note for podcast reads.

What isn't

  • Design or copywriting from a blank page — bring your own logo, offer and talking points; we'll help shape the wording.
  • Editorial coverage. Advertising placements are always labelled as such and sit apart from our reporting.
  • A promised sales outcome for the advertiser — we describe the placement and the format, never a certain result.

Week 2

Consistency

How placements stay consistent

Every sponsor note and host-read follows the same short process regardless of the advertiser: a briefing call, a review step before anything runs, and a plain-language summary once it's done. Editorial staff write and produce the news content; advertising placements are handled by a separate desk and always carry a "Sponsored" or "Partner content" label.

We keep the same host, the same newsletter format and the same podcast schedule from booking to booking, so a placement running in week one of a campaign sounds the same as one running in week four.
