Advertising Terms
Advertising terms
Last updated: September 22, 2026
1. Scope
These Advertising Terms apply to every placement booked with Birchcast — the Yonge–Dundas Morning Note newsletter sponsor line, Downtown Beat Host-Reads podcast mentions, and the Core City Partner Month — in addition to our general Terms of Use.
2. Booking
A placement is confirmed once we have agreed dates, format and price with the advertiser and received the creative information described on our Advertise with us page. Bookings are taken in the order requested and subject to available editions or episode slots.
3. Creative deadlines
Copy, logos or talking points for a newsletter or podcast placement should reach us at least three business days before the first scheduled run, so there is time for a review round before publication or recording. Material submitted later may push the first placement to the next available edition or episode.
4. Approval
Advertisers receive draft wording or a script outline for review before anything runs. One round of revisions is included in the listed price; further changes after approval, or once an edition or episode has gone to print or recording, cannot be accommodated for that run.
5. Make-goods
If a confirmed placement is missed or materially altered due to an error on our part — for example a sponsor note omitted from an edition it was booked into — we will offer a make-good placement in the next available edition or episode at no additional charge, or a partial refund for the missed placement, at the advertiser's choice.
6. Editorial independence from advertising
Birchcast's news reporting, podcast episodes and newsletter round-ups are produced by our editorial desk independently of any advertising relationship. Booking a placement does not entitle an advertiser to favourable coverage, and editorial staff have no role in drafting or approving advertising copy. Every placement is clearly labelled "Sponsored" or "Partner content" so readers can tell it apart from our reporting.
7. Content standards
Creative supplied for a placement must be accurate, lawful and appropriate for a general readership. We may decline or request changes to creative that we reasonably believe is misleading, unlawful or inconsistent with the tone of the publication.
8. Payment
Placements are invoiced once booked and are payable ahead of the first scheduled run, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
9. Payment and refunds
Cancelling or changing a booked placement is covered in full in our Payment & refund policy page and in the Payment & Refund Policy and Returns Policy sections of our Terms of Use.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Advertising Terms from time to time; the date above reflects the most recent revision.
